Harksells honored with citizenship award

Lifelong Ferndale residents, Nita and Pete Harksell, Jr, were recognized during the last Ferndale City Council meeting when they were awarded The Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Citizenship.

Noting their volunteering extends to the local Kiwanis, Old Settlers’ Association, Ferndale Heritage Society and the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce. Most recently it was noted, Pete is also currently a member of the City of Ferndale Parks, Recreation and Trails Advisory Board (PRTAB).

The award is a creation of Mayor Jon Mutchler. Recipients to date are as follows.

The Harksells own and operate Pete’s Auto Repair which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
