Ferndale-based Grant’s Burgers will be opening a new location in Bellingham in mid-March if things go according to plan.

Owner Kim Fox says the new location will be located at 2601 Birchwood Avenue, the long-time former location of Morrie’s Drive-In and more recently of To & Go Burgers & Wings.

“Everything will be the same as the other Grants,” Fox said in an email. “Same hours, 11am-7pm mon-sat.” She added they will be hiring 8 employees at the new location.

Grant’s Burgers is named for Fox’s father, Russ Grant, who opened Grant’s Drive-In in 1964 with his wife, Linda, in Ferndale at 1861 Main Street, where Sonic Drive-In is now.

Fox has created a burgeoning legacy to her parents by recreating Grant’s Burgers in Ferndale at 2254 Douglas Road, in Lynden at 1945 Front Street and at fairs and festivals via the Grant’s Burgers food truck.

Russ was famous for entertaining customers with spontaneous delivery of one liners and jokes, most of which can be found on the walls at the Ferndale and Lynden locations.

The announcement of the new Bellingham location caused some to worry the Ferndale location was closing. “We will never leave Ferndale,” Fox said in response.
