Community news is all about telling the community’s many stories and that is what My Ferndale News is all about. To do this, community contributions are a necessity. A big “Thank you” goes out to the many who have already stepped up and provided news tips, videos and photos over the past few years.

It is easy, when you have news tips, videos or photos you think might be newsworthy, to simply click here to provide them to MyFerndaleNews.com. This link also appears at the bottom of every page on MyFerndaleNews.com.

So you ask, “What’s newsworthy?” The answer is, it depends on so many things. Obvious events like crashes and fires are good bets as long as you do not hinder first responders and provide assistance to victims if needed. But frankly, there is no harm in sending something that is not immediately used in a story because it could serve as a news tip about a different story or be used in a later story.

Contributors can consider the following list as strong candidates but it is by no means an exhaustive list:

  • Sporting events
  • Extreme weather, good and bad, and its impacts
  • Public forums
  • Parades and other community events
  • Wildlife sightings
  • Volunteer efforts
  • Anything likely to impact or is already impacting a good number of area residents

Businesses need to keep the community aware of what is happening by sharing their news and MyFerndaleNews.com is happy to help with that. Examples include announcing key personnel hires and retirements, new locations (in the Ferndale area of course) and expansion of operations, facilities and offerings.

And don’t forget the always popular Ferndale community calendar and jobs board is free. Businesses and organizations are welcome to post their events on the calendar for free. and post jobs (and volunteer opportunities) to the jobs board, also for free. And these links also are provided at the bottom of every page on MyFerndaleNews.com.

One note, please do photograph or video anyone in distress or while you are driving. Nothing good can come from either.
