Students attending Beach Elementary School on Lummi Island got a two-hour reprieve this morning when the Ferndale School District (FSD) announced classes were delayed two hours due to a mechanical issue.
According to FSD Assistant Superintendent Mark Deebach, an issue with the building’s furnace, possibly a leak in a line, prompted shutting the system down. Space heaters are being used to heat the approximately 5500 square-foot building in the meantime.
Deebach said he does not anticipate any ongoing or other major issues.
As of May 2016, the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) reported 33 students attended Beach Elementary School.
