Funding awarded to improve 2 Birch Bay-Lynden Road intersections

BLAINE, Wash. — $1.94 million in federal funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program that will help pay for construction of a roundabout and the addition of left turn lanes and lighting on Birch Bay-Lynden Road has been awarded to Whatcom County Public Works according to an announcement today, November 5th.

A roundabout planned at the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden and Blaine Roads received $1 million in federal funding and is already in the design phase after the engineering contract was awarded to Reid Middleton Inc. in June. This project is expected to be completed in 2024. Public comment is expected to be sought this winter.

The intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden and Kickerville Roads received $940,000 in federal funds to help pay for adding dedicated left turn lanes and lighting. This project is expected to be completed in 2026.
