Friday opens the season for the Ferndale Farmers Market

This Friday marks the first day of the 2016 season for the Ferndale Farmers Market (FFM).

This year marks another change in scheduling as Ferndale Farmers Market (previously known as Ferndale Public Market) organizers continue to look for the best day of the week to set up. Last year saw a change from Saturdays to Sundays. This year, the market will be open on Fridays from 1pm to 6pm and will be located in the same place as last year, the field next to the Pioneer Park Pavilion Community Center.

According a FFM spokesperson, farm vendors expected on opening day include

  • Northwest Gourmet Harvest
  • Twin Cedars Farm
  • Misty Mountain Farms
  • Bee’s Choice Honey
  • Chubby Bunny Farm
  • Ten Fold Farms

In addition, there will be food and craft vendors including a favorite from last year, Juanita’s.

Opening day will feature a live performance by Chuck Dingée and free strawberry shortcakes (while supplies last). There will also be medieval swordplay with Trevor of Epic Myth Designs and the Boys & Girls Clubs Ferndale Branch will be providing community activities.

New this year, according to the market spokesperson, will be the ability to accept WICfarmers market and senior farmers’ market checks and SNAP/EBT cards with the dollar-for-dollar match up to $10 from the Fresh Bucks Program.

FFM is scheduled to be open every Friday, starting this Friday, until October 28th.

The FFM has been in operation since 2007.
