Friday morning update

7:15am: Good morning. It’s a wet and chilly morning with the temperatures around Ferndale in the low forties and the rains returning in the last hour. It appears that the river has crested both at a far lower point (about two feet lower) than originally forecast and much earlier than anticipated. Hopefully you enjoyed yesterday’s record-tying high temperature.

NOTE: All schools are closed today for a teacher workday.

Some local commute routes are closed due to water over the roadways. They include:

Marine Drive between Lummi Shore Drive and Rural Avenue
Ferndale Road south of Slater Road
Barrett & Paradise Roads at the corner where they join.

Today’s Ferndale weather forecast calls for a return of the heavy rains with a quarter of an inch expected. Also expect highs in the mid-forties and east winds shifting to south-southwest at 10 to 15mph. The chance of rain is 90%.
