The second day of paving of the Washington Street road improvement project was forewarned to produce delays not only around the immediate area but also on nearby roads. That appears to be happening.

Traffic on 2nd Avenue through Griffintown was rerouted down the north lane on Washington Street to keep vehicles from driving over the recently paved surface on the south lane at the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Washington Street.

Flaggers are in position at Washington Street and Vista Drive to help keep the flow of traffic going.

But, as of 5:10pm,

  • the backup extended into Griffintown, approaching the Portal Way roundabout
  • westbound Main Street from I-5 is backed up past LaBounty Drive

Alternate routes suggested include,

  • Slater Road to Imhof Road
  • Portal Way north to Brown Road to Malloy Road or Vista Drive
