National Weather Service (NWS) Seattle office forecasters say it will be windy tonight and Thursday, mainly along the coast and in the north interior, including the Ferndale area. South winds of 25 to 35mph with gusts to 50mph can be expected. As a result, a Wind Advisory has been issued and will be in effect from 6pm tonight, Wednesday, December 12th, until noon Thursday.

A windstorm of similar strength rolled through the Ferndale area yesterday. Gusts of more than 50mph were recorded by weather stations throughout the area, including a 57mph gust at 12:30pm recorded by a weather station near Ferndale High School.

Minimal impacts, including 1 localize power outage in north Ferndale, were reported as a result of yesterday’s windstorm.

NWS issues Wind Advisories when sustained winds of at least 35 mph are expected. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Drivers are advised to use extra caution.
