FERNDALE, Wash. — Forecasters in the Seattle office of the National Weather Service say December-like wet and windy weather can be expected in the Ferndale area.

A strong weather system is expected arrive later today, December 11th, bringing an active weather pattern that is expected to continue through Friday. As a result, widespread rains can be expected beginning this afternoon along with increasing winds.

Southerly winds with gusts of 35mph to 40mph are possible along the coast and across the north interior region including western Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan Counties. At these speeds, no advisories or warnings will be issued.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 40s before dropping into the 30s Saturday.

This system will also be responsible for heavy snow in the Cascades according to forecasters, primarily above 3500 feet. A Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades is in effect this afternoon through Friday morning.
