Forecasters: Expect precipitation followed by a bitter cold dry spell

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Temperatures in western Whatcom County have recently been hovering between 40 and 50 degrees. Forecasters say that is about to change with a drop of about 20 degrees.

The drop in temperatures is expected to follow a change in wind direction as it swings from southerly to northeasterly on Tuesday.

The next weather system is currently expected to arrive Saturday or Sunday bringing warmer temperatures and higher snow levels.

Precipitation occurring while the temperature drops on Tuesday and rises on Saturday may fall as snow in the lowlands depending on the temperature at the time. No significant accumulation is currently expected on either day.
