Forecast: Flooding to Begin Again Sunday

nooksack river at ferndale hydrologic forecast 2015-12-3While no related advisories or warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service, the latest NWS hydrologic forecast model shows the Nooksack River at Ferndale exceeding minor flood stage (17 feet) Sunday and continuing to climb.

The forecast, dated last night, December 3rd, at about 10pm, predicts the river level will exceed the minor flood stage late Sunday morning. At 17 feet, some water over roadways and flooding in low lying areas immediate to the river can be expected.

Based on the forecast and historical trends, the river is expected to continue to climb and crest around midnight Sunday at 19 feet. 19 feet is considered the official flood stage point for the Nooksack River at Ferndale. It is typical for roads to be closed (e.g. Marine Drive and Slater Road) due to flooding just before the river reaches this point.
