FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police Chief Kevin Turner said Ferndale Police were dispatched to a report of a shoplifter at a store on LaBounty Drive Saturday afternoon. While officers were en route, they were advised by dispatchers the suspect had been struck by a vehicle on Barrett Road.
According to one witness, the suspect was seen running southbound on LaBounty Drive. They reportedly jumped a fence, ran across both southbound and northbound lanes of I-5 and jumped another fence before being struck by a passing pickup truck on Barrett Road between Main Street and W Smith Road.
When police arrived, the suspect was sitting in the grass along the east side of Barrett Road.
Whatcom County Fire District 7 aid units also responded and transported the suspect to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center with minor injuries according to WCFD7 Fire Chief Larry Hoffman.
