Flags ordered to half-staff in memory of Shimon Peres

Yesterday, President Barack Obama issued an official proclamation for flags to be flown at half-staff “as a mark of respect for the memory of Shimon Peres, former President and Prime Minister of Israel.”

Flags are to remain at half-staff until sunset September 30, 2016.

Peres was the ninth President of Israel, serving from 2007 to 2014. He was also a member of twelve cabinets in a political career spanning nearly 70 years. In 1963, he held negotiations with President John F. Kennedy.
