FERNDALE, Wash. — Fire and aid crews from Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded to a report of a commercial structure fire in the 6900 block of Salashan Parkway about 9:20am today, December 9th.
According to WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson, they arrived to find fire and smoke in an area adjacent to the main building where wood chips and other materials were being processed.
Iverson did not want to speculate on the cause but noted it would have only taken a spark from nearby machinery to ignite the material.
WCFD7 crews remained onsite for over 3 hours and used thermal imaging equipment to ensure there were no unseen hot spots and any smoldering material that remained was contained.
