Dropping humidity is cited as a primary reason for a Fire Weather Watch for Thursday and Friday.
The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Fire Weather Watch from Thursday morning through Friday evening. Humidity levels are forecast to drop from a normal range of 40 to 60 percent down to 10 to 20 percent during the afternoons. The forecast low humidity, high temperatures, winds of 10 to 25mph and low fuel moisture levels combine to create critical fire weather that can result in high risk conditions.
A Red Flag Warning will be issued if forecast conditions are realized.
Whatcom County Fire Marshal enacted a Stage 1 burn ban for the county in July that only allows for recreational campfires. A permanent burn ban applies within the Ferndale city limits.
