Shortly after 12pm on November 4th, 13 hours after the fire was reported, fire crews were seen rolling up firehoses by the loading dock entrances to the warehouse. A forklift carried what appeared to be water or smoke damaged material out of the warehouse. From all appearances, this appears to have been an isolated fire with lots of smoke.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s office. Fire Investigator Mitch Nolze indicated to Discover Ferndale it may be a week before a cause and damages can be officially reported.
According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Larry Hoffman, they had approximately 25 personnel on the scene through the night and into the early afternoon.

Click for more informationHealthy Pet CEO Ted Mischaikov told Discover Ferndale the night supervisor did a great job in detecting the smoke in the warehouse, immediately evacuating the adjacent work areas and calling 911. As a result, there were no injuries.
The smoke triggered the warehouse sprinkler system.
The processing lines which prepare, pack and warehouse the product are stopped for the time being until the building is deemed safe to return to normal operation. Displaced workers are being utilized in the clean up and restoration process whenever possible.
Mischaikov recognized those who have come to their aid. “The first responders have been real professional. I am really pleased with their ability to get in and fight the fire under such difficult conditions.” He also pointed out ServiceMaster of Whatcom County for their ability to quickly handle the water and smoke cleanup.

About 11pm last night, November 3rd, fire crews responded to a report of a fire in the warehouse at Healthy Pet®, previously known as Absorption Corp, on Salishan Parkway in the Grandview Industrial Park (see satellite image at bottom of this story).
Several units responded and were able to quickly gain access into the warehouse. Fire crews in the building reported locating the fire in the large warehouse after about 30 minutes.
No information was available this morning about the cause or damage as fire crews remain on scene investigating. According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 Assistant Chief Larry Hoffman, they expect to be there for several more hours.
