Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko told Whatcom News while they were responding to the call they could see smoke from the burning building from Grandview Road, over 4 miles away.

Boyko said access to the site was a challenge since the primary dirt driveway to what used to be a drive-in theatre was underwater. As a result, firefighters walked to the burning structure, a single-wide mobile home. The old drive-in theatre building was not involved. Boyko said they encountered a downed power line and waited until PSE could secure the line before they could safely work the fire.

No one was inside at the time of the fire, and no one was injured or displaced.

Firefighters from WCFD7 and North Whatcom Fire & Rescue responded to the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Whatcom County Fire Marshal’s Office.
