The crew of Ladder Truck 41 out of the Church Road Fire Station got a unique call yesterday about 4pm. Neighbors nearby were requesting an owl rescue.

According to a post on Whatcom County Fire District 7’s Facebook page, neighbors saw the owl with one leg caught between two boards on the side of a structure it was presumably nesting in. The ladder truck crew took up a position to reach the owl with their ladder and were able to carefully extricate it from its awkward perch.

The owl was taken to the Whatcom Humane Society to be checked for injuries. A representative there told Discover Ferndale the owl had been transferred to the Sardis Raptor Center for rehabilitation before being released back into the wild.
