NOOKSACK, Wash. — First responders were dispatched to the 200 block of W 3rd Street in Nooksack about 2:30am on Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Whatcom County Fire District #1 fire chief Rachel Carlson issued the following press release regarding their response.

On January 6, 2026, at approximately 2:30 AM firefighters responded to a reported structure fire involving a detached residential garage in the City of Nooksack. First-arriving crews found the single-story garage fully involved in fire, with flames impinging on nearby vehicles and the exterior of the residence.

Firefighters initiated a defensive fire attack and were able to prevent the fire from spreading into the home. The garage had burned completely and had collapsed to the ground before firefighters arrived on scene. Several vehicles sustained fire damage. A second alarm was initially dispatched in error and was canceled shortly thereafter.
