Washington State Patrol (WSP) reported this morning Makyla M. Carpenter, age 18, of Ferndale, had died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash on I-5 Thursday evening.
Carpenter was a passenger in a black 2000 Volkswagen Passat 4-door driven by Tristen N. Florence, age 21, of Ferndale. Both were critically injured in the crash Thursday, June 28th, shortly after 10pm, and transported by ambulance to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center.
According to WSP, the Volkswagen was northbound in the left lane at milepost 266 when it maneuvered into the right lane driving between two motorcycles, striking one motorcycle’s mirror before losing control and ending up in the median.
Neither motorcyclist was injured. Speed and alcohol were listed by WSP as the cause of the crash.
Given Carpenter’s passing, WSP has updated their pending charges to vehicular homicide.
