FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale Police arrested and charged a Ferndale woman with arson Saturday, May 14th, hours after firefighters had been dispatched about 4am to a residential fire that was deemed suspicious.
Kelsy Rae Logan, age 30, was arrested and booked into Whatcom County Jail about 2pm the same day charged with suspicion of 1st degree arson and resisting arrest.
Ferndale Police Spokesperson Riley Sweeney told Whatcom News via email that Logan lived in the residence in the 6000 block of Hatton Place “at times.”
According to Sweeney, Logan took a can of fuel from an outdoor shed, kicked in an entry door and spread the fuel onto the floor and a chair inside the residence. After lighting the fire, Logan called 911 to report the fire.
When Whatcom County Fire District 7 personnel arrived, the fire was already extinguished.
WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson told Whatcom News there was no one at the residence when they arrived.
While investigators were at the scene, Logan returned. Sweeney said she resisted arrest and was taken into custody after a brief struggle. There were no injuries to either Logan or the detective.
As of May 16th, Logan remained in custody according to jail records.
