FERNDALE, Wash. — Adults at risk of developing type 2 diabetes will be provided an opportunity here in Ferndale to reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve their overall health and well-being.
Research by the National Institutes of Health has shown programs like the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program can reduce the number of new cases of type 2 diabetes by 58% and 71% in adults over the age of 60 according to a press release from the YMCA.
The program is scheduled to begin September 17th and is composed of 25 class sessions held over several months at Unity Care NW’s North Whatcom Health Center at 6060 Portal Way.
To qualify, participants must be over 18-years-old, been diagnosed with prediabetes via blood test and qualify via a risk assessment.
