FERNDALE, Wash. — The Ferndale Arts Commission (FAC) has put out a call for a Coast Salish artists to submit designs for a mural to be installed in Ferndale.
The mural will be installed on the west exterior wall of the Ferndale Pioneer Pavilion Community Center. The size should be at least 700-square-feet but designs that cover the entire side, except windows, are encouraged. The selected design will be determined by the Ferndale Arts Commission and the Lhaq’temish Foundation and expected to be installed during the summer of 2021.
The mural should honor the original caretakers of the area and that is the reason to have it created by a Coast Salish artist. “Our goal for this mural is to collaborate with a Coast Salish artist to bring this acknowledgement to the Pioneer Pavilion,” said Rebecca Xczar, FAC chairperson.
Interested artists are asked to submit at least 1 sketch in color, with height and size preferences, along with examples of any relevant previous experience. The deadline for submission is June 25th and submissions are to be sent to Rebecca Xczar via email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information is available by calling (360) 319-2677.
