Bellingham Fire Department and Whatcom County Fire District 7 crews responded to a structure fire yesterday, Saturday, January 19th, at the Bell Air RC Flyers Club airfield at 3004 S Red River Road after 3pm.

According to Bellingham Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief Jay Comfort, a small storage building at the airfield had caught fire.

According to radio transmissions by fire personnel at the scene, the fire was quickly knocked down but not before flames were seen on one wall of the building.

The contingent of fire response vehicles from Fire Stations 31 (Marietta), 34 (MacKenzie Rd), 43 (Northwest Dr) and law enforcement vehicles at the scene were visible from Slater Road.

Club members did not respond right away as to how this may impact their 2019 event schedule.
