The Ferndale Public Market plans to stay in the grassy field between the Pioneer Pavilion Community Center and the Boys and Girls Club on Cherry Street. But it will be moving to a different weekday this year.
City Council liaison to the Ferndale Public Market Carol Bersch announced at the Ferndale Heritage Society monthly meeting Tuesday the Market plans to be open from noon 1pm to 6pm on Fridays during the 2016 season beginning June 10th and until October 28th.
Last year, the market moved a couple blocks from the Riverwalk Park down to Pioneer Park and changed from being open Saturdays to opening Sundays and keeping later hours. According to Bersch, while the new location was well-attended and appreciated by vendors, it is hoped Friday afternoons would more attractive to shoppers than Sunday, while they are already out-and-about and not away traveling during the weekend.
Three events happening on Fridays during the Market’s season may require moving the Market to the lawn in front of the Ferndale Senior Activity Center, return to the Riverwalk Park or simply close for the day. The events are Firecracker Rod Run, Old Settlers’ Picnic and Makayla’s Street Jam. A final decision has not been made regarding these three dates.
