5th Avenue Theatre judges viewed 119 productions produced across Washington State during the current school year from which they came up with 8 nominees and 10 honorable mentions for each category.

FHS ranked 7th with 7 total recognitions and 8th with 4 award nominations.

Rachel Pringle said this is the first time a Ferndale High School production has been nominated for the Outstanding Overall Musical award. “That’s such a great honor and it really reflects the kids’ efforts.” Pringle said they were notified last night while in the middle of auditions for the Ferndale Summer Youth Theater Program.

As a Outstanding Overall Musical award nominee, members of the FHS “Fiddler on the Roof” production have been invited to perform a scene from their show during the awards ceremony at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle on June 11th.

The 5th Avenue Awards, according to organizers, honor high school musical theater. “Now in its sixteenth year, this Tony Awards®-style event was created to celebrate theater students with the kind of support and recognition that accomplished high school athletes have received for decades.”
