Ferndale fire battled during high winds and cold temps

Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters were called out to a residential structure fire in the 5800 block of Cedar Street about 3:10am this morning, Saturday, February 9th.

According to radio transmissions they arrived to find a fully involved residence. 7 fire engines along with a medic unit responded.

At the time, temperatures were reported to be in the mid-20s and sustained northeast winds of 25mph with gusts to 50mph according to a nearby weather station.

As of 4am, the fire was reported to be knocked down and no injuries had been reported.

WCFD7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said a nearby house and apartment building were evacuated. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

    The woman who lives here is deaf and, while all got out safely, she doesn’t have her hearing aids or glasses. She also has a service dog named Monty. Please help them all!
