At least over the past couple of days, Ferndale has been faring better than neighbors to the north and south during this recent weather shift.
While Ferndale has seen a bit of rain, it has been nothing like the hours of downpour experienced in Skagit County and south yesterday. And today, partly cloudy with patches of blue sky was to the south but looking north there were ominous dark clouds with sheets of rain and at least one lightning strike.
The Discover Ferndale mobile unit was heading north on Northwest Drive from Smith Road when a lightning strike was recorded by the dashcam. While it appears on video to strike the tree, the lightning bolt was actually quite a distance away to the north. That did not prevent the subsequent thunder from making an impressive noise in the Ferndale area.
