FERNDALE, Wash. — Ferndale’s 2021 Citywide Clean Up Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 22nd, from 9am to 1pm. The event, in its 13th year, is hosted by Ferndale Downtown Association (FDA).
The 2019 Citywide Cleanup Day resulted in the biggest turnouts, both in volunteer count and disposal drop-offs, in the event’s history according to FDA officials. That was the last time the event was held since FDA officials decided to cancel the 2020 event due to COVID-19 government restrictions.
Disposal of metals, electronics, yard debris
and large items such as sofas will be available for free during the event. As in years past, the event will be based out of the Ferndale City Hall parking lot at 2095 Main Street.
Organizers said in an announcement yesterday, Ferndale city “and very nearby” residents (proof of residence via driver’s license or city utility bill may be requested) will be able to dispose recyclable metals, computers and yard debris for free. A document shredder will also be available for disposing of personal papers and confidential documents.
Residents will be expected to get out of their vehicles and place items in the proper bins. Yard debris will be placed in trailers located in the Rockwood Realty parking lot across from the City Hall on the corner of 4th Avenue and Alder Street. There will be people on hand to help point out the proper bins.
Another part of Clean Up Day is volunteers gathering to pick up litter, clean flower beds and sweep sidewalks in public right of ways throughout the historic Ferndale downtown district. Anyone who would like to help can come to City Hall at 9am to sign in and pick up gloves, bags and tools to help clean up.
Organizers note there are some items they cannot accept including tires, batteries, paints, chemicals, household garbage, furniture or TVs.
