Cheesemakers and cheese lovers from around Washington State gathered at an event in Seattle and one Ferndale cheesemaker came away with a People’s Choice award.
The 2016 Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival was held at the Seattle Design Center Saturday afternoon. The event showcases a wide array of artisan and farmstead cheeses made in Washington. Attendees get to meet the cheesemakers, learn about their products and cheese-making philosophies and sample their cheeses.
“People’s Choice Awards” were given to three cheeses at the event. 2nd place was awarded to Ferndale’s Twin Sisters Creamery for their Whatcom Blue cheese. 1st and 3rd place awards were given to cheesemakers from other parts of the state.
Other local cheesemakers in attendance included Appel Farms, Pleasant Valley Dairy and Ferndale Farmstead.
According to the festival website, “Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival is a benefit for the Washington State Cheesemakers Association, a non-profit organization who supports Washington cheesemakers through education, promotion and collaboration.”
