UPDATE 5:30pm Sunday
This is what we have been waiting for. The business community on Main Street from I-5 to 4th Avenue has had their power restored and most businesses you would expect to find open at this time on a Sunday are open. Notable exceptions include Maggie’s Pub, Walgreens and Coconut Kenny’s.
Restaurants and grocers have been hit with the loss of many products which require freezing or refrigeration so expect some menu changes and availability issues. They are restricted by law from selling food which they have not been able to keep adequately refrigerated or frozen.
All gas stations in the area are pumping gas again.
On the east side of I-5 on Main Street, Pilot, Denny’s and McDonalds remain closed. Pilot is waiting on their corporate offices to restore their systems so they can resume business. They expect to get back online within an hour according to an onsite spokesperson.
Ferndale is open for business again! Show your support for local businesses when you can.
UPDATE 11am Sunday
The list in the original story below has become useless as businesses that had power restored have since lost it or they are not scheduled to open yet or on Sundays.
Here’s the short version: Haggen, Grocery Outlet, 7-Eleven, Rite Aid, Walgreens all closed. Most all of downtown west of the river on or near Main Street is without power except for the block between Main Street and Vista Drive and Third and Fourth Avenues – those businesses have power but may not be open on Sundays. Mugshots is open and cars are lined up onto the street at Vista and Washington.
- Hawleys Auto Parts is without power but open for cash sales.
- Checkered Apron will be open from 11am to 5pm today.
- Dickey’s Barbecue Pit confirmed they are open and kids (12 and under with an accompanying adult purchase) eat free today.
- Good Burger is open.
- Subway is open.
- Shell Minimart (4th & Main) is without power (no gas sales) but open.
Portal Way is also currently without power but the Ferndale Quick-E Mart has opened anyway “with hot coffee and cold beer.”
While they had their power restored last night, businesses east of the river to I-5 were also without power at the time of this update.
Most churches are without power and unlikely to be holding services this morning. Call, check websites or drive by ahead of time to confirm.
