Game 1 of the Cal Ripken World Series is in the books. Ferndale took a tough loss to the Middle Atlantic region team, Cedar Cliff, out of Pennsylvania.
Ferndale had the lead 1 to 0 going to the top of the sixth inning. Ferndale took a 1 to 0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Landen Hatchett hit a 1 run homerun. Ferndale held the 1 run lead until the top of the sixth inning. Dylan Strom pitched four scoreless innings followed by a scoreless fifth inning pitched by Landen Hatchett.
Middle Atlantic’s bats got hot in the top of the six inning and they put up seven runs against Landen Hatchett and Isaiah Carlson. Ferndale couldn’t put up any more runs in the bottom of the sixth that was the game.
Ferndale has three more pool play games. We have a bye day tomorrow, Friday, so our next game up is Saturday at 8 PM Eastern time against the Southwest region, Clark County Arkansas. Then we play Sunday at 6 PM Eastern against Midwest Plains region, Galena Kansas and then our last pool play game on Monday at 7:30 PM eastern against the host team, which is also the south east region champion, Clemmons North Carolina.
Bracket play will start on Tuesday.
The Ferndale 12U Cal Ripken team made it to the Cal Ripken World Series in Clemmons, North Carolina, after earning championships in recent State and Regional tournaments.
