A repaving project on northbound I-5 that reaches from the Portal Way interchange north to Blaine will begin tonight according to Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Communications.

Most of the work will be performed between 7pm and 11am Mondays through Thursdays. Work will also be done on the on- and off-ramps at the Main Street, Slater Road, Portal Way and Grandview interchanges in Ferndale during this project.

The contractor is expected to begin the project at the Portal Way interchange and work northward. The mainline paving will be completed before work begins on the interchange ramps, which is estimated to be sometime in June.

The project will overlay the northbound lanes of I-5 from MP 259.70 to MP 275.20. The project will also mill and fill the ramps at the Portal Way, Slater Road, SR 548/Grandview, and Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Peace Portal Drive interchanges, and overlay southbound On-Ramp at SR 543 interchange.

Drivers can expect single lane closures during the work hours and shoulder closures. There will be on- and off-ramp closures but WSDOT promises consecutive ramps will not be closed at the same time.  Later into the project work is expected to continue into some Sundays. The project is expected to be done in early September.
