A fire investigator with the Whatcom Fire Marshal’s Office was dispatched to determine the cause of the fire.

WCFD1 Division Chief Darren Branum said they were initially dispatched to a report of a dumpster fire at the property but arrived to find the conveyor belt at the bottom of the hopper on fire along with the hopper.

There were no injuries due to the fire and damage was undetermined, Branum said.

As of Monday, March 29th, the cause remained under investigation according to Branum.
