WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. — Colin Gomez, 21 and of Everett, was sentenced in Whatcom County Superior Court (WCSC) on March 16, 2026, after pleading guilty to vehicular assault and reckless endangerment. Gomez was sentenced to 3 months of confinement for each count, to be served concurrently. The court authorized the sentence be served via home detention and electronic monitoring.
The charges originated from a collision on August 7, 2024, at about 5:35pm in the 1200 block of Chuckanut Drive. According to an affidavit of probable cause, Gomez was driving about 60mph in a 15mph zone while racing another vehicle. Gomez crossed a double yellow line around a blind corner and struck an oncoming vehicle head-on.
The driver of the struck vehicle sustained broken bones and a laceration. 2 child passengers were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and 1 sustained a head injury.
As part of the sentence, Gomez was ordered to pay $54,878.01 in restitution to the victims. The court also imposed a $500 victim assessment and $200 in court costs. Gomez was ordered to pay at least $75 per month toward these legal financial obligations.
The WCSC clerk was directed to notify the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) to revoke Gomez’s driver’s license.
