Early morning power outage

PSE outage map for December 19th 2016 at 6am

If you awoke to blinking digital clocks this morning, you are likely one of many Ferndale area neighbors who were without power this morning.

According to Puget Sound Energy (PSE), 1,874 of their customers were effected by the outage which began shortly after 5am. Neighborhoods impacted were west of Malloy Avenue, south of Brown Road, east of Olson Road and north of Mountain View Road (see graphic).

Power was restored to all neighbors about 6:30am.

Gusty winds are one possible cause. Gusts up to nearly 60mph had been recorded at a weather station near Ferndale High School before the outage. PSE did not indicate the specific cause of the outage.

This same group of neighborhoods lost power during an afternoon windstorm on October 14th. Classes at the public schools in the area were also impacted. Power was also restored after about one and a half hours then.
