About 2:30am, Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Whatcom County Fire District 7 crews were dispatched to a report of a power pole and lines down on a vehicle at Northwest Drive and W Axton Road.

Soon after, a Ferndale Police officer reported a, possibly related, small brush fire further down W Axton Road west of Old Settlers Drive as a result of a downed live power wire.

Details regarding the crash were still being waited on but what is known is Puget Sound Energy reported power being knocked out for a large area in the vicinity. It was not until after 8am this morning that power was restored to all but 6 PSE customers impacted.

PSE crews were onsite this morning making repairs. As a result, W Axton Road between Northwest Drive and Burnham Drive is closed to all traffic. The estimate by PSE is the road will remain closed until late this afternoon, possibly later.
