Local law enforcement agencies in partnership with the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other Washington State law enforcement agencies began the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Friday. The campaign will continue through the Labor Day weekend.

Nationally, Labor Day weekend is one of the deadliest times of the year in terms of drunk-driving fatalities.

A Ferndale Police spokesperson told Discover Ferndale extra patrols are scheduled during this year’s campaign. It is hoped awareness of the extra patrols will motivate drivers to reconsider getting behind the wheel after drinking.

The extra patrols are part of and funded by Target Zero, a Washington Traffic Safety Commission program striving to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington by 2030.
