The City of Ferndale Police reported today they had recently arrested two men after serving a search warrant on a reported drug house at 5345 Poplar Place (see map below).
According to the report, on September 18th, Kenneth Heinzl and William Evans were booked on a number of charges as the result of an investigation into “complaints from citizens regarding the high volume of short-term foot traffic and vehicles going to and from the residence.”
After obtaining a search warrant, Ferndale Police with assistance from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office entered the residence and seized
over 140 marijuana plants, approximately 1.75 grams of Heroin, over 7 ounces of methamphetamine (estimated street value of over $20,000), THC extract, 6 firearms, over 40 prescription pills individually packaged, and approximately $1,000 in cash.
It was determined the property was owned by Heinzl and Evans was living at the residence at the time.
Heinzl was arrested for:
- Possession with the Intent to Manufacture – 2 counts (Marijuana and THC extract)
- Possession with the Intent to Deliver – 2 counts (Methamphetamine and prescription pills)
- Unlawful Possession of a Firearm – 6 counts (convicted felon in possession of a firearm)
- Unlawful use of building for drug purposes
Evans was arrested for:
- Possession with Intent to Deliver – 2 counts (Methamphetamine and Heroin)
- Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer
At the time of this article, Heinzl and Evans remained in the Whatcom County Jail and the City had posted an “Unsafe to Occupy” order at the residence. According to city staff, after the residence had been entered and searched it was determined “there may be some serious health and safety issues with the property and [we] are waiting for the tests to come back.”
