FERNDALE, Wash. — It was only a couple weeks ago when Hovander Road was closed from Monday to Friday in order for the city complete installation of a water main extension under the adjacent railroad tracks and the road. Unfortunately, another closure between Nielsen Road and W Smith Road will begin Monday, October 5th, but it is not known for how long.

City of Ferndale Capital Projects Manager Katy Radder said during a phone interview today that testing of the newly installed section of water main revealed a leak but it did not tell them exactly where. As a result, work will resume Monday to investigate where the leak is occurring and make the needed repairs.
As to how long the road is expected to remain closed, Radder was not willing to guess. “We are hoping the leak is closer to the road and not in the pipe in the casing under the railroad tracks,” Radder said. “Closer to the road would result in a shorter road closure.”
The closure, however long it lasts, will be an all-day and all-night closure to all traffic.
Traffic will be detoured around the closure via Main Street, LaBounty Drive and W Smith Road.
