Crashes kept first responders busy around Ferndale today

FERNDALE, Wash. — There were multiple crashes around the Ferndale area today, June 17th, keeping fire, aid and law enforcement busy.

About noon today, 2 cars collided head-on at the intersection of Vista Drive and Washington Street.

Ferndale Police Sergeant Kevin Davis said a the causing vehicle was southbound on Vista Drive when it attempted to make a left turn onto Washington Street. That driver failed to yield to a vehicle that was going northbound on Vista Drive, colliding head on. 

According to Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) officials, 1 person was treated at the scene with minor injuries.

Aid and law enforcement were again dispatched to the intersection of Vista Drive and Washington Street just before 3pm for a report of a car versus bicyclist crash. A young bike-rider was treated at the scene and released according to WCFD7 Division Chief Justin Iverson.

Then, just before 4pm, first responders were dispatched to a multicar crash involving eastbound traffic at the intersection of LaBounty Drive and Slater Road. Davis said a driver suffered a medical emergency and their vehicle rear-ended a vehicle that was slowing for another vehicle stopped to make a left turn. The rear-ended vehicle was pushed into the turning vehicle.

According to WCFD7 Assistant Fire Chief Dean Crosswhite, they had 4 patients at the scene and 2 were transported to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center. 1 was transported under advanced life-support protocol (ALS) and another was transported under basic life-support protocol (BLS).

Davis said the causing driver was cited for driving while their license was suspended, no insurance and following too closely.
