Updated: Crash on I-5 at Nooksack River bridge

Initial reports via emergency agencies’ radio transmissions indicated a semi truck and up to 5 vehicles were involved in a crash around 7:15pm in the northbound lanes of I-5 between the Main Street (milepost 262) and Portal Way (milepost 263) interchanges.

Traffic was backed up south of the Main Street interchange as of 7:40pm.

Aid and law enforcement were reported to be on scene assessing and treating the injured and investigating the crash(es).

Update 8:40pm
All lanes of northbound I-5 and the Portal Way off-ramp have been reopened.

Update 9:40pm
Whatcom County Fire District 7 Division Chief Ben Boyko said aid units transported 3 people from the crash scene to PeaceHealth St Joseph Medical Center for precautionary reasons. Another was going to be driven to the hospital by a private vehicle and 2 people declined aid at the scene.

Update 7:20am, March 8th
The Washington State Patrol reported no semi truck was involved. Instead, it turned out to be 2 separate crashes. One crash was involved two cars and the other involved three cars. No report of any charges or citations as a result of either crash.
