Community Meal to return but with a different format

FERNDALE, Wash. — The Community Meal at the United Church of Ferndale will be served Saturday, March 28th, from 10am to noon but the format will be a little different given current restrictions due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.

The Community Meal has been served on the 2nd and 4th Saturday each month for years. But last weekend it was cancelled due to new federal and state mandated social distancing restrictions implemented to minimize the spread of the virus. Meals have been provided on a donation-optional basis benefiting the Ferndale Food Bank.

Ferndale Food Bank Executive Director Suzanne Nevan said meals will again be available on March 28th but not with the sit-down format of past years. Drive-up and pedestrian pickup service will be provided and the prepared and packaged meals will be handed out in the parking lot of the church.

“We are doing the best we can under the circumstances,” Nevan said.
