FERNDALE, Wash. — The Ferndale Downtown Association (FDA) announced they are accepting donations toward the purchase and installation of a bench and plaque to honor the memory of former Ferndale Chief of Police Michael Knapp. Knapp died November 6, 2019, a day after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing a Lynden street. He was 79.
FDA officials said in their announcement, “We invite others to participate with us in this memorial. If you ever had the opportunity to spend any time talking to Chief Knapp you will know how much this memorial will mean to the people of Ferndale.”
The bench will be located near the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Vista Drive near 2 potted trees.
The amount needed is $1,300 not including the custom plaque and $200 had been raised as of yesterday, October 7th. Donations can be mailed to Ferndale Downtown Association, PO Box 1483, Ferndale, WA 98248.
The FDA has placed 14 similar green benches around the downtown Ferndale area in what has been one of the group’s longest running projects.
