Local Whatcom County Fire District 7 (WCFD7) firefighters will be out Thursday, February 8th, between 4pm and 6pm at the intersection of Main Street, Joe Moser Lane and Dick Stone Lane collecting donations as part of a Fill the Boot campaign. According to organizers, all proceeds will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood cancers.

This is part of the worldwide 27th annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb fundraiser put on by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. It culminates with firefighters in full gear climbing the Columbia Tower in Seattle; 69 flights of stairs, 1,356 steps and 788 feet of vertical elevation. Approximately 2,000 firefighters from all over the world will arrive in Seattle for this one day event.

The firefighters participating in the Fill the Boot drive on Main Street will be easily recognizable in their firefighting gear. They will have firefighter boots in which donations can be placed. Organizers say firefighters will be positioned on both sides of Main Street to accept donations.
