City Water/Sewer Customer Rates to Remain Unchanged

City of FerndaleThe City of Ferndale announced on their website today the water and sewer rate assessed against usage will remain unchanged at least until June 30, 2016. 

Rate changes are made based upon the movement of the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) specifically for Seattle, Tacoma and Bremerton (the closest region with a published CPI-W index). Since the index dropped 0.2% there will be no increase. The rate does not decrease since the ordinance adopted by the city in 2013 states

WATER SERVICE CPI ADJUSTMENT
“All rates increase (no decreases) by 50% of the Seattle CPI-W, change from April to April of the current year.”

SEWER SERVICE CPI ADJUSTMENT
“All rates increase (no decreases) by 150% of the Seattle CPI-W, change from April to April of the current year.”

The following is a historical table of Seattle’s CPI-W which indicates  the CPI-W for April 2014 was 722.784 and for this year April it was 721.226.
