City of Ferndale Communication Officer Riley Sweeney posted to Facebook today, April 20th, that an update could be expected soon regarding the City’s policy halting most construction projects during the state’s current social distancing and stay at home mandates.

When asked by a citizen if changes to residential construction could be expected, Sweeney responded, “we’ve got an update coming this afternoon on this subject.”

When asked about the closure of summer events, Sweeney responded, “I imagine there will be some summer activities going on this year, they just will not include a 10,000 person parade or festival.”

I want to commend the city leaders of Ferndale for making tough but necessary decisions in order to keep us safe. We’ve never come up against anything like this disease and quarantine before and I’m impressed with how things have been handled despite the fact that no one was ever trained to deal with the ramifications of a global pandemic. We don”t usually have to deal with global issues in our little town and I’m proud of our leaders for stepping up and making difficult and unpopular decisions in order to keep us healthy and safe. Thank you.
