FERNDALE, Wash. — After several starts and stops over the past few years to raise the salary for whoever wins the election for Mayor of Ferndale, this City Council finally got enough votes in favor to make it happen.

An ordinance to increase the Mayor’s salary appeared on the agenda for last night’s regular meeting of the Ferndale City Council. The ordinance increases the Mayor’s 2021 salary 40% from $1,889 to $2,650 per month, retroactive to January 1, 2021.

The ordinance also guarantees 3% annual increases to the Mayor’s and Councilmembers’ salaries beginning in 2024 through 2027.

After some discussion, the ordinance was modified to be effective April 1st instead of January 1st and was approved by a vote of 4 to 3 with Councilmembers Ryan O’Larey, Ali Hawkinson and Paul Shuey opposed.
