Central Elementary recognized for academic improvements

The Center for Educational Effectiveness this week announced Central Elementary School has been recognized as a 2018 School of Distinction.

Central and Lynden Academy High School were the only schools in Whatcom County to receive the award this year which recognizes the top five percent of the highest improving schools in the state for increased reading/math achievement and graduation rates over the past five years. 91 schools across Washington State were recognized with 2018 School of Distinction awards.

This is the 3rd time Central has been recognized with the award. It also was a recipient in 2015 and 2017.

Elementary and middle schools are recognized for sustained improvement in ELA and math achievement. High schools are recognized for sustained improvement in graduation rates over the past five years.

The School of Distinction recognition is awarded by The Center for Educational Effectiveness (CEE) in partnership with the Association of Washington School PrincipalsWashington Association of School Administrators and the Washington Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.

Other local recipients in the 12 years the award has been given include Ferndale High School (2008) and Windward High School (2017).
